In part 2 of my posts on Lessons From A Launch I’d like to talk a bit more about your offer – get that right and the rest is plain sailing. To be clear, by ‘offer’ I simply mean the product – whether it’s a course, package, service, software or whatever – that you are launching.
Of course, sometimes it takes a while to really pinpoint what exactly it is you are offering, especially if you are creating a new course or product. With the Retirement Firesale launch, it’s a bit different because these are products I have already created which makes life a little easier as my offer is based on the extreme value of bundling them into an irresistible package.
But if you’re new to this and maybe creating your first product or offer, it helps to be crystal clear about what it actually is right from the start.
When I was first starting out online, older and – I thought – wiser marketers would advise me to craft my sales letter before I even started creating my offer. While this is not such a bad idea because it can help you clarify the benefits and details of what you are offering, it can also be daunting for a beginner.
What I tend to do is bullet point so that I have the basis for both the sales letter and the offer before I start creating but I like to actually complete my course or product before I finalise the sales letter.
Yes, I know this flies in the face of what some would call wisdom but I prefer to take my time to craft and create something that truly offers the right solution before I start selling it.
And that’s the thing to remember – you are offering a solution.
Preferably one solution to one burning problem.
All too many people will tell you to just slap that solution out there and sell, sell, sell baby but I think that’s a very short- term approach.
What would you rather do….wow people with something you truly care about and are proud to offer or get something out there that you know could be better?
Of course there is a happy medium along with that old adage that money loves speed.
Plus perfectionism can be a real killer. So what I always think is that you should go for ‘good enough’ rather than perfect. With the emphasis on ‘good.’
If you’re thinking about creating or launching something new, let me leave you with some homework. Sit down and bullet point right now:
- The problem you have identified that you can solve with your product
- Your solution
- The steps or details of your solution
- The benefits your customer will gain from it
I’ll be back in the next post with more on the steps to launch but for now focus on that idea of an ‘offer.’ It will not only drive your product creation and your sales letter or video but also your attitude…because that is what you are doing: offering something to the world with all the right level of pizzazz and heart as well as hustle.
Do it right and they will lap it up.
Do it wrong and they will stay away in droves.
I know which I prefer.
