You follow the advice and build a list.

Wonderful.

You (hopefully) have a welcoming sequence telling your new subscriber a bit about you and what they’ll be getting from you.

That could include a newsletter like this.

It might not.

You could simply send out a series of emails that are a mix of promotional and educational/entertaining content.

And that’s where many people get stuck…

I know this because I get asked this question, or a variation of it, all the time:

‘What do I say in my emails?’

It’s a great question because what you say in your emails and how you say it is, of course, crucial to how you build your relationship with your subscribers.

Even if you are sending out a newsletter – great choice! – you still need to include other emails in your communications.

They might be when you launch something, when you promote something or simply to build an even better relationship…

The question remains: what do you say?

It’s a question I’m going to answer in this week’s newsletter, starting with this excellent selection of example welcome emails along with templates you can download.

Now, I’m a big fan of templates. I include them in many of my courses and, as I always say, that’s the thing to remember…

They’re templates. You need to take them, personalize them and make them your own.

Note I said ‘regular’ – that’s key. And no, you don’t have to email every day contrary to what some email gooroos insist.

At the other end of the scale, you don’t want to be emailing once a month either. Aim for twice a week at first with a newsletter (my standard mix) and you’re golden.

When it comes to the tone and content of those emails, there are some good rules and structures you can follow – see some of those here:

My best advice to you is to write as if you were chatting to a friend. That way, you’ll sound authentic and will resonate far more with your readers than if you go all salesy and throw in tons of pushy tactics or phrases.
