I wanted to talk to you today about something which afflicts a lot of people I come across.
It’s one of those questions I hear over and over again, and that is, ‘Does it really work?’
Now, I entirely understand scepticism when it comes to something as nebulous as online marketing, or indeed when it’s like you’re creating something out of thin air.
But when people ask me if something like email marketing works or social media marketing works, or a particular tactic works, then I have to say, in all honesty, almost everything does work, so long as you actually implement and keep implementing it.
Now that second part is the most important part, because far too many people that I see, give up if they don’t get instant results.
In my experience, very few results are absolutely instant.
Yes, they might be immediate, they might be same day. But you need to be able to implement something and keep implementing it in order to see if it actually works.
Take for example, my idea of my new newsletter, which I have been putting up on my blog and which I wrote about the other day.
Now, this was a very casual experiment in that I thought I would go and check the stats, and lo and behold they were way up.
As I said in a previous newsletter to you, I didn’t do anything to promote those on the blog. I just put them there. And it worked.
Almost everything does work. But you have to be consistent. So today, I’m posting not just the newsletter, which is this, but I’m adding to it by giving you an audio version, in case you’d like to hear my dulcet tones, but also in case that’s your preferred learning style.
And I’ll be trying out different things as well.
But note the consistency will be that I will keep posting more regularly on the blog, sending out regular newsletters and keeping up those touch points, and I can guarantee you that will work.
So my takeaway for you today is that if there’s something you have tried and let go of, stopped doing, or gave up on, give it another go.
If you tried, shall we say, affiliate marketing or email marketing and you dabbled. And it didn’t work out immediately for you then I want you to work out a consistent plan for it for the next seven days.
One week, that’s all. And I want you to implement whatever you have learned about it and then tell me after those seven days if you still think it doesn’t work.
Now, this is kind of like an honesty box situation, because I’m trusting you to do the work, to take the action, and to then decide if something works for you or not.
When we define work, it means do you get a return on your efforts?
I don’t want you to set the bar too high, if you’re a complete beginner, because these things take time.
It took me an awful long time to acquire all the knowledge I have today, ten years after really delving into this online thing.
But it’s not going to take you ten years. Although you do have to be prepared to show a bit of grit.
Show up. Show some grit, implement, do it for seven days, whatever you choose and choose one thing. Choose one particular thing, such as affiliate marketing, email marketing, Facebook marketing, product creation…whatever it is that you’ve stumbled over before.
Seven consistent days. And then we’re going to check back seven days from now and see just how far you’ve got, and if it actually does work after all. I bet it does.
